Were You Born To Lead or To Follow ?

With My Love & Life ^KanchiniSekaran^
I do come across meeting up many people, particularly people from the corporate world. I observed few elements along my journey and it is interesting to know that there are many leaders out there.

Sadly, not many leaders have effective skills as they are bound to Follow instead of taking the Lead. Now, to define Lead is something more than giving someone an order, or pointing finger, or isn't just bossing people around. It is more than this !

To Lead, it demands a lot of responsibilities, dedication, managing the team well, and top of all is staff engagement or I would spelled it as understanding.

Many leaders fail to understand that workplace engagement do plays a major role in resulting excellent output/results by keeping the employees happy. Sometimes, dollar & cents is not the issue. It backs to understanding each and other. I mean management-staff relationship. When such environment takes place, clearly shows the Leader were born to Follow and not To Lead.

Follow, as in getting instructions and redirecting the instruction to the employees, which every Tom, Dick & Harry could practice that. I don't have to work for years to be there, probably, 1 week training will do.!

Get down, hands on, manage, communicate, troubleshoot together, investigate, identify, resolving issues, seek for solution, and all the mentioned above is related to staff welfare not work pertaining issues.

Leaders are meant to keep the team happy and the team's duty is to resolved the jobs problem/issues. Now if the team is Not well taken care, the Leader's will need to do the staff's job. So, now I see the point why there are so many inefficient leaders around claiming that they have a lot of works to do. When they actually don't have to.

Leadership abilities comes naturally to some, but for many, it has to be Honed and Developed. I truly understand that Leaders are Made not Born! Leadership skills are acquired  over a period of time based on several factors:

Seven Leadership Skills:

1. Leaders come in all different shapes and sizes. It is interesting to study effective leaders. At face value they are all different. They all have developed their own style based on their own personality and what works for them.

2. A true leader accepts responsibility. Everything from how they speak to how they act is part of being responsible. It is easy to follow them because you know where they are going and know they will lead you as well.

3. Leaders work at being leaders. They are always improving their skills and learning from the situations they are in. They study people and have learned how to effectively interact with them to get what they want.

4. Leadership starts at the top, but is best achieved when developing a team atmosphere. Leaders know they can do better when people are working together for one common goal. Sharing in leadership is part of this process. Making everyone accountable for what they do, but judging success on the overall efforts of everyone.

5. Situations call for different types of leadership. A well-rounded leader is able to adapt to their surroundings and lead accordingly. Coaching a football team is an example of this. Sometimes the players need a kick in the rear and other times they need a pat on the back.

6. Leaders are respected for what they have accomplished in the past. A real leader can speak from a position of practical experience and know they will be listened to because they speak from that vantage point. A respected leader is able to command more from his people than a leader who is not.

7. Leaders seek opinions and compile ideas before forming a game plan. Good leaders know that they cannot come up with every idea that will work. By allowing input they are able to make a more responsible decision.

Highlighted in blue, is my strong points for leadership.

We all know from the beginning, the days when the Great Mohandas Gandhi quoted " I suppose leadership at one time meant Muscles; but today it means getting along with people"

That's all for today....Cheers to all Leaders and future leaders.

Engagement at Your Workplace - Part 1

Hi everyone, I'm back after a long period of craziness. Juggling time is one madness and the amount of commitment keep on increasing each day as we aged tremendously affecting our daily life. Nevertheless, I manage to discover a lot of things, experiencing the odds and even of life, this time it is related to most of our work place.

Have you ever wonder, how many person / staff do really engaged to their own work. Let's say, if there are 10 people on the job, how many people are actually working?

Well, we're not just talking about Kuala Lumpur city postman or even McDonald delivery man on rainy day. In Sue Johnston articles, she mentioned that only 20%  of employees are truly engaged to their work. Which means 8 out of 10 people are not. Well, those people show up to work, look like they are working hard but the fact is they are not fully committed. After certain period of time these type of employees will not be able to cope with the job and will take the next step that is skipping to other job.

Therefore it is important for an employee to get themselves engage into what they are doing so that they will feel worthwhile working, work with enthusiasm and passion to their work.

The fundamental or I would call it the basic core of this is 'EMOTION', likewise been quoted in Ms Sue Johnston article.

Most of the organization or employers fail to understand the fundamental of the organization success / greatness lies in using what you already have. I am referring to the work force/manpower or shall we consider it as 'STAFF' . Most leaders main concern is to achieve the companies objective or target within the time frame given and what makes the leader a failure is not to understand the emotion of the skillful and dedicated employee.

These are the areas where a leader or future leader in any organization should learn:

          1. Using Emotional Intelligence
          2. Building Relationship
          3. Communication
          4. Connection to Customers
          5. Recognition
          6. Freedom to Act
          7. Developing Individuals & Teams

I believe when the leader able to learn the Rule of Engagement, the employees will improve their productivity and directly will improve the service quality.

Well I guess, this far is the journey for today and in the next blog (Part 2), I will explain more in details on each of the following 7 areas that I have mentioned.

Till then......Have a good time......

Prakash Naidu & Kanchini Sekaran In Love

Love Exist and that is why we have decided to present this blog on our love story to you all out there. Don't ever lose hope or ever think that it happens only in fairytale stories. Let this story be an inspiration to all that is already in love, looking for love as well as to the ones who hates love :) Happy reading.
Kanchini and I met via Facebook & Instant messenger back in 2009. We were friends for a great few months before we became a couple back in early December 2009. We finally met in person on the 5th December 2009 after 4 years of her student life back in London, UK. It is the most remarkable and historical date for the both of us.
Neither of us was expecting to fall in love online, but yet here we are telling you our story.
This is the story of our first meeting.

Love rocks people....
“It was a beautiful morning of November 13th, I got the news that she's (Kanchini) back to Malaysia after months of Facebook-ing & IM's. The moment that, I have waited for months has arrived. Those were the days where every minutes feels like an hour, every hour feels like a day, every day feels like forever...We decided to meet & I traveled 320km just to have a special day out with her. I got lost immediately.
Finally when I reached her place, in the middle of the road was her dad in shorts, pasted with the look that says ' Is this the dude?'. My heart almost came out through my mouth. I had to swallow it back to show my macho-ness and asked her dad permission to take her out. Her family spoke something in Telugu which sounded like they gonna bash me up any minute. Finally with a smile from her parents I manage to steal her away for the day.
The two of us immediately talk all kind of stories without a pinch of awkwardness. We went to the Curve and she was so 'jakon' since she has never been there. She can claims KL as her first boyfriend when she hasn't even been to the Curve. Every building she saw she was just jumping with exciting. I wonder, is she from UK or Ulu Kelang. Opps, shoes gonna fly later. hehe..
Well, later in the evening I took her to Al-Andalus. God, this woman can really talk. She was on an on with stories and I was shaking inside. Wonder why people? Coz I have a plan. I took her there and we talk more and finally I took her to lamp post and ask her to close her eyes. She was nervous but eventually she followed my instruction. I took out a tiny box and asked her to be my girlfriend. This time not only my heart wanted to come out but my intestines as well was threatening to do so... She must have thought of the entire place I chose a lamp pose.
She was shocked and could not say a word. After a couple of torturous minutes she said she has to think. I was just relieved as if I completed my Life's toughest exam not bothered whether I failed or passed. I took her back home and again there was no awkwardness. I felt very sad that I have to go back but I did not have any chose.
Exactly on the 5th of December she agreed to be my girlfriend. Yahoo!!! Life could not be sweeter after that. Till date we love each other without expectation
